Thriving Futures By Damini Awoyiga

Sang:

Listen to the rivers

Listen to the Oceans

The breath through the trees

That is the sound

Of earths heart beating

An Earth of greeny and magic

Of Oceans, and large land masses

Filled with animals and trees

The Earth, once vibrant and so alive,

Now struggles to survive

Struggles to thrive

and now we pay the price

Because we chose to return Earth's generosity

With greed

We put the Earth in crisis

We must tread lightly on the path that we lead

Sang:

Listen to the rivers

Listen to the Oceans

The breath through the trees

That is the sound

Of earths heart beating

We keep taking too many fish from our seas

70% of Nova scotias economy made from fisheries

Creatures of the sea replaced with styrofoam and plastics

Dangling from their bodies and necks

Chains of the Industrial Revolutions

When will we acknowledge the melting of glaciers

and the rising of seas

When will we believe earthquakes

and tsunamis have caused casualties

When will we see all these disasters as emergencies?

Sang:

Listen to the rivers

Listen to the Oceans

The breath through the trees

That is the sound

Of earths heart beating

When will we begin to learn from our mistakes

Take action, to enact the necessary change

What would happen if we decided to choose sustainability

Choosing electric instead of gas

Choosing to support ecological instead of contaminating,

We are in the wrong

We put you in a crisis

We hurt you, took from you

and expected you to be fine

we are starting to see

it's not going to be alright

It was never okay

Sustainability is about those youth and coming next,

and the world that you will leave us

and we will leave for them.

Sang:

Listen to the rivers

Listen to the Oceans

The breath through the trees

That is the sound

Of earths heart beating
